I Was a Teenage Teenager

Last week I had the privilege of speaking to the book club at Collier High School about Nimrod.

It was truly special to make such a strong connection with these kids, none of whom come from the greatest of situations. I had an excellent childhood but still I felt alone in a crowded room for so much of my adolescence. To quote Propagandhi: “Never understood the other kids, the adults even less.”

Events like this one, making connections with teenagers who don’t have a lot of trust in adults, are the things about writing a book that I could’ve never seen coming and they are some of the best parts of this entire ride.
