Hey, my name is Ryan. I wrote a novel called Nimrod which I hope you’ll check out. I’m deep into the process of writing my second one, Thing of the Past, but having Nimrod published and trying to think of ways to promote it inspired me to create a blog. This is a great way for me to share some of my more immediate thoughts. Writing novels is both a lot of fun and very fulfilling but it takes so long and sometimes I want to write something like:

How Matt LeBlanc Became One of My Favorite Actors Post-Friends

which

1) is not fit for a novel, and

2) I don’t want to spend much time on because once I start editing it, I’ll realize that they are thoughts that should remain in my head rather than being put onto the page. So this is a way of shutting off my editing brain and diving into my stream of consciousness thoughts, like a longform Twitter.

The plan for this blog is to put out one essay per month and then weekly I’ll write a post of recommendations of things I enjoy that I think you (yes, you) might as well. I’m obsessed with music, books, tv shows, and now I’ve even been dipping my toes in the graphic novel waters. Many of these things that I love are criminally underrated so my way of righting the wrongs of the universe is to write some blog posts that very few will ever read. Noble, huh? Anyway, I’ve had blogs before which ran until I lost interest and/or forgot the login info leading me to move onto something else (usually blathering on to my wife about the things I love). Best laid plans, right? So let’s see how far we get with this one. Over/under: 2 years. Head over to your favorite online betting site and take the under. My blog posts may be painstakingly long but my attention span is rather short.
